Knowing Your Place: Bath in Twelve Pictorial Alphabets

Knowing Your Place: Bath in Twelve Pictorial Alphabets

This handsome publication features all the original text and images from our Knowing Your Place exhibition. The highly successful exhibition, comprising twelve community alphabets, has been on display at the Museum since 2013.

The publication has 312 pictures, with associated text, that you can browse at your leisure. The entries range from the Apothecary of Argyl Street to the Zoo that only had Australian animals.

This is an alternative view of Bath, created by the residents themselves. Free from all the traditional associations, such as Georgian elegance, each entry is a local building, personality or natural feature.

The twelve alphabets are: Bathford, Batheaston, Bathwick, Larkhall & Walcot, Lansdown & Weston, Twerton, Combe Down & Odd Down, Southdown & Englishcombe, the City Centre, Widcombe & Lyncombe, Bathampton and Oldfield Park.

Knowing Your Place is only available from the Museum of Bath at Work. The cost is £5.00, but if you are unable to visit, we can post it (postage and packing in UK £1.00). Contact the museum on 01225 318348: payment by cheque, or card over the phone.  Please note that we are a small organisation and cannot always get to the phone. Equally, we are not Amazon so delivery will be slower.
