The Museum of Bath at Work is home to the reconstructed engineering and soft drinks factory of Victorian businessman Jonathan Bowler. This enthralling display provides the backdrop for a number of activities for school children.

Walk & Talk.
Guided tours of the Bowler factory lasting about an hour and involving working machinery and handling historic objects. We are happy to help you make the tour fit your special requirements. e.g. The Victorian Child at Work, Bowler’s Factory during the Second World War, etc.
Available all year round £2.00 per pupil. I hour duration -
Drama at the Museum.
Using the rooms of Mr Bowler’s factory and its contents as props, two professional actors guide the improvised action. Full details and introductory notes are sent ahead of a visit and costumes, etc are provided. This activity has been devised with Government’sl Numeracy and Literacy Strategy in mind
Three scenarios are offered:
- For Richer For Poorer Bowler’s factory in 1900
- War Work Bowler’s factory in 1942
- All Change! Bowler’s factory in 1969
Included in this activity is a guided tour of the factory reconstruction and a brief slide show to introduce the subject.
Available October-March £4.00 per pupil. 3 hours duration. -

Available all year round. £1.00 per pupil. 30 minutes duration - It’s Magic! A Victorian slide show using an original Magic Lantern projector and slides.

Museum at Night
The Museum is available for sleepover events – specifically Scouts, Cubs, Brownies, Girl Guide groups etc. as part of National Museums Night and on other occasions during the period May – September.

A large room is available for lunch, hanging coats and a secure space for bags, etc.
Teachers and accompanying adults go free
